Description
A chopstick rest, not tableware: This piece is a hashioki, the small rest used in Japan to hold chopsticks so that the tips do not touch the table. In Switzerland, this is largely unknown; there, it is an essential part of a set table.
The rest is crafted in Kutani-yaki, a ceramic technique from Ishikawa Prefecture known since the 17th century for its bold, deep, vibrant colors. Minnie is featured on it wearing a kimono. Because the piece is so small, the effort put into the painting is especially worthwhile; displayed on a shelf, it looks like a miniature. It can be used daily or given as a gift for a special occasion. It takes up almost no space on the table. The workmanship is neat. We import such items from Japan in small quantities; restocking is not guaranteed.
Important notes: Ceramic is fragile and leaves shards if dropped; not suitable for small children. Information regarding dimensions, dishwasher, and microwave suitability is in Japanese on the packaging; for hand-painted ceramic, hand washing is recommended as dishwashers can damage the paint. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Do not use if cracked or chipped. Further information is provided in Japanese on the packaging. We are happy to help with any questions regarding individual details.
